Since 1942, Visby Airport has offered air traffic to and from the mainland. Today the airport has 40-50 arrivals and departures every day, and during the summer season traffic increases due to tourism. During the winter season, charter departures and weekend trips are extra popular.

Journalists at the airport
Swedavia's airports are civilian protected properties. A permit is always required to photograph and carry out press work at the airport. In order to visit the transit areas, that is the area after airport security, an escort is required. Photography is prohibited within and towards the security controls.
In the case of accidents or other unusual events, the airport may be closed for journalists. Journalists are in this case sent to designated places.
