Scanian of the Year: Jesper Rönndahl gets his portrait at Malmö Airport
The Scanian of the Year 2019, named by the readers of the Swedish daily Kvällsposten, is the comedian, television presenter and two-time winner of the Swedish game show På spåret Jesper Rönndahl. On Thursday he was on hand at Malmö Airport along with airport director Peter Weinhandl for the unveiling of his portrait in the Welcome to my Hometown gallery.
The honour “Scanian of the Year” has been awarded since 1967. For many years, the southern Swedish daily Kvällsposten and the Flag of Scania Foundation have nominated a number of candidates that readers then vote on. The Scanian of the Year also gets their portrait hung in the Welcome to my Hometown gallery at Malmö Airport.
This year, the comedian, writer, actor and radio presenter Jesper Rönndahl has been named Scanian of the Year. His big breakthrough came when he and Elisabet Höglund together won the Swedish TV game show På spåret [‘On the track’] twice and also set a record for points won. He achieved much wider success on the TV satire series Svenska nyheter [‘Swedish news’], and in 2019 he has starred in the series Dips on Swedish national public television, which he co-created.
“The person named Scanian of the Year is someone who has done good PR for the province of Scania, has the common touch and carries out activities that reach a broad public. So I am really pleased to welcome Jesper Rönndahl to our Welcome to my Hometown gallery at Malmö Airport,” says Peter Weinhandl, airport director at Malmö Airport.
The reasoning cited for the latest choice of Scanian of the Year: Jesper Rönndahl has that Scanian image which is a lovely mix of relaxed humour and seriousness.
“Finally! I’ve always thought it strange I’m not hanging there,” says Jesper Rönndahl.
