Stockholm Arlanda Airport will be developed into the leading airport in Scandinavia. Investments of 15 billion Swedish kronor are planned through 2025 in order to create an airport that is ready for the travel of the future. As part of this work, Airport VIP Service’s new premises – with 2,000 square metres of floor space and a Nordic-inspired decor designed by the architecture firm Tengbom – were inaugurated today.
Today Stockholm Arlanda’s VIP Service moved into new premises next to Terminal 2 that are twice as large as its old facilities in Terminal 5. Until 2025, 15 billion kronor will be invested in Stockholm Arlanda in order to provide a faster and smoother passenger experience of the highest calibre.
“We are pleased that we are now able to offer more opportunities for people to book a VIP experience so they can get the best start to their journey – everyone from celebrities, the royals, celebrities, corporate executives and other passengers who want to travel undisturbed with a touch of luxury to bridal couples who get married here before heading off on their honeymoon,” said Peder Grunditz, airport director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Tengbom, the architecture firm that designed the VIP premises, has created an experience connected to the Nordic landscape. The concept is based on a journey from hard to soft, with an outer shell of concrete giving way to rooms made of wood. The interiors consist of furniture and accessories with a subdued aesthetic, mostly of Nordic origin.
“Taking our inspiration from Sweden’s landscape and culture, we wanted to create a memorable experience for visitors. People here encounter spatial qualities often associated with relaxation, reflection and spiritual experiences. What is luxury if not a hideaway place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life?”, said Mark Humphreys, the architect in charge of the project and practice director of Tengbom’s Stockholm office.
