Wizz Air establishes operations at Arlanda
The ultra low-cost carrier Wizz Air is continuing its expansion with its sights set on Sweden's largest airport. Starting 31 October 2023, the airline will launch two new routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Budapest and Gdansk.
Wizz Air is one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe. The airline has now set its sights on Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and starting 31 October this year, it will be launching two new direct routes to Budapest and Gdansk.
The new routes will be a welcome addition as well as a complement to Stockholm Arlanda's existing direct routes to Europe. It will also provide a boost to the tourism industry in Stockholm and Sweden. Indeed there is an increased interest in visiting Stockholm from both Poland and Hungary and flight accessibility is an important parameter given our location in Europe.
Tourism to Hungary and Poland from Sweden has also increased in popularity in recent years and has had a strong recovery since the pandemic. Budapest, with its thermal baths, historic architecture, shopping and storied history is a popular destination for Swedish tourists, not to mention Gdansk, with its rich culture and ideal location on the Polish Riviera, which attracts plenty of visitors.
Starting 31 October 2023, Wizz Air will operate Stockholm Arlanda Airport – Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport 4 times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) and Stockholm Arlanda Airport – Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport 14 times a week.
