Terminal 4 is open
Starting Wednesday, June 15, Terminal 4 at Stockholm Arlanda Airport will be back in service. It is not the same terminal that is opening but rather a new version with the terminal’s gate area more closely integrated with the other gate areas in Terminal 5. A new connecting walkway with a travellator has been built, which gives passengers the possibility of moving freely between Terminals 4 and 5 after the security checkpoint.
In order to ease the load at Terminal 5, facilities for check-in, departing baggage and security screening have opened in Terminal 4 for Ryanair’s passengers. All Ryanair passengers, domestic and international, will check in there. Â
But maybe you are thinking that Terminal 4 is a domestic terminal, right? Not anymore. With the connection to Terminal 5 and its international functions (passport control and customs), the terminal can be used for both domestic and international traffic. The area for Gates C30-44 (the gates in Terminal 4) will be used for domestic flights and for traffic in the Schengen area, while flights to destinations that require passport control will depart from the gate areas in Terminal 5.
Departures
- Check-in of departing baggage in Terminal 4 for Ryanair’s passengers, both domestic and international.
- Security checkpoint in Terminal 4 for Ryanair’s passengers but also for passengers flying with any airline who have checked in and are travelling only with hand baggage. They can go through the checkpoint in Terminal 4 to reach all the gates in both Terminal 4 and Terminal 5.
Arrivals
- Since the area for Gates C30-44 in Terminal 4 handles both domestic and international traffic, all passengers who arrive here should use the connecting walkway and pass through Customs in Terminal 5 on their way out.
- Arriving baggage is picked up in the baggage hall in Terminal 5.
FAQ about Terminal 4
Can you go through the security checkpoint in Terminal 4 if you are checked in and are travelling only with hand baggage (but will fly from Terminal 5)?
Yes, that is possible. No matter which airline they are travelling with, passengers who have checked in and are travelling only with hand baggage can go through the security checkpoint in Terminal 4 in order to reach all the gates in both Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. There is a new walkway after the security checkpoint that connects Terminals 4 and 5.
Staffing at the security checkpoints in all the terminals are balanced throughout the day based on the air traffic at the time in each terminal.
Is Ryanair the only airline using Terminal 4?
Ryanair has its check-in there, for both domestic and international traffic. Other airlines may also have flights that depart from Gates C30-C44  in Terminal 4. Please note that in that case check-in takes place in Terminal 5. People who only have hand baggage may use the security checkpoints in Terminal 4 or Terminal 5.
But Terminal 4 is a domestic terminal, right?
Since the terminal’s gate area is connected via the new walkway with Terminal 5 after the security checkpoint, passengers flying to and from Terminal 4 can use the international functions in Terminal 5, including border control for travel outside the Schengen area and customs on arrival. As a result, the terminal will now be used for both domestic and international traffic.
