Air Mediterranean Airlines is now launching non-stop service between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens. The Greek carrier is launching seven new international routes at the same time. The maiden voyage between Stockholm and Athens is planned for November 2, and there will be departures four days a week.

Travel to Athens from Stockholm Arlanda has increased 68 percent in the past four years, at the same pace as the increase in direct service. Summer traffic is most important for this destination, but there is significant demand for service year-round.

"It is gratifying to see the growing supply for new direct routes between Stockholm and the rest of Europe. We see a large and increasing demand, particularly in terms of services to Greece. Since 2010, we have also seen a substantial increase in tourists travelling to Sweden from Athens. We welcome Air Mediterranean Airlines to Stockholm Arlanda," says Elizabeth Axtelius, Aviation Business Director at Swedavia.

The strong contrasts make the capital of Greece an exciting destination to explore. In this world city, antiquity meets the future and the ancient monuments contrast with a new and trendier Athens.

The new non-stop route will be served by a Boeing 737-400. Departures from Stockholm Arlanda will be four times per week on Thursdays to Sundays, with a flying time of 3 hours and 50 minutes.
