EasyJet continues to expand at Åre Östersund Airport. On December 15, 2019, easyJet will launch a new direct route with Sunday departures from Berlin-Tegel International Airport. EasyJet's focus on ski destinations within transfer distances is the background to the establishment.

The successful investment in the northern Swedish region of Jämtland Härjedalen continues when the European carrier easyJet establishes another direct route to Åre Östersund. The carrier already flies from three international destinations to the region – London, Copenhagen and Bristol. The northern Sweden, with its authentic nature experiences and winter sport activities, will be even more accessible to German tourists.

“It is very gratifying that easyJet is offering flights from Berlin straight to the heart of Jämtland. We hope we will be able to welcome even more German visitors and ski tourists. In terms of commercial guest-nights in Jämtland Härjedalen, German visitors were the third largest group of visitors last year. Now it will be even more convenient for people from this Swedish region to take a weekend holiday in the German capital,” said Peter Fahlén, Airport Director at Åre Östersund Airport.

Berlin is growing in popularity as a destination, and Germany is one of the most popular countries among Swedes. Åre Östersund will be Swedavia’s third airport to offer convenient non-stop service to Berlin, after Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

“We are pleased to further strengthen our network to and from Sweden with an exciting new route between Åre Östersund and Berlin-Tegel which we believe will prove a popular addition to our existing network and will provide great value winter breaks to Berlin for our Swedish customers,” said William Vet, Country Manager BeNeLux/Scandinavia at easyJet.

“Wow, we are extremely proud of that this has succeeded which has required a lot of work. The fact that easyJet continues to invest here is proof that our products deliver great guest satisfaction, which is the basis for the visitor industry to be able to continue to be the welfare machine it is in our region today, ” said Karin Gydemo Grahnlöf, Jämtland Härjedalen Tourism.

The new air link between Östersund and Berlin-Tegel will launch on December 15, 2019, and then operate on Sundays during the winter season.

EasyJet’s aircraft fleet is among the youngest in the world, and in order to continue to reduce its emissions the carrier is investing in new technology and new aircraft. Since 2000, easyJet has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions per passenger and kilometre by more than 32.5 per cent. The airline’s target is a 10 per cent reduction from 2016 to 2022, an overall improvement of 38 per cent from the year 2000. The Swedish aviation industry’s target is for Swedish domestic air travel to be fossil-free by 2030 and for Swedish international air travel to be fossil-free by 2045.
