Increased travel during the first quarter of the year

The total number of passengers at Swedavia's airports in March was 3,180,000, a 6 per cent increase compared to March last year. It was mainly international traffic that accounts for the rise in March; 1,987,000 people flew internationally, which is a 10 per cent increase. The total number of passengers who flew domestically was 1,193,000, a 1 per cent increase.

To sum up air travel during the first three months of the year, international travel increased 9 per cent (to 5,336,000), while domestic travel increased 4 per cent  (to 3,222,000).

Of Swedavia's ten airports, Malmö (487,000) and Åre Östersund Airport (141,000) had the greatest increases in percentage terms, with passenger volume up 10 per cent during the first quarter.

Swedavia's two biggest airports had substantial increases during the first three months of the year. The number of passengers at Stockholm Arlanda was 5,262,000, an 8 per cent increase compared to the previous year. A total of 1,356,000 people flew to or from Göteborg Landvetter Airport during the first quarter, which was also an 8 per cent increase.

About 50,000 landings were made in scheduled and charter operations at Swedavia's airports during the first quarter of 2016, a 3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

Figures to note for the first quarter of 2016:

• Malmö Airport and Åre Östersund Airport had a 1 per cent increase in passenger volume during the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same quarter in 2015. 
• Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter Airport each had an 8 per cent increase in passenger volume during the first quarter. 
• The number of international passengers at Swedavia's airports increased 10 per cent in March compared to the same month last year.
