The number of international passengers in March increased slightly compared to 2012 as measured by the number of passengers at Swedavia's eleven airports. Meanwhile the number of domestic passengers fell, which led to a three per cent decrease in the total number of passengers compared to the same period in 2012, due largely to the Easter weekend falling in March.
In March, 2.7 million passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia's eleven airports, a decrease of three per cent compared to the same period in 2012. The number of domestic passengers fell ten per cent while the number of international passengers was up two per cent. The number of domestic passengers was 1,100,000 and the number of international passengers was 1,600,000.
"Adjusted for the Easter effect, comparable figures for March traffic were even somewhat higher than last year's, which is a good performance given the economy and the fact that 2012 was a record year," says Torborg Chetkovich, President and CEO of Swedavia. "And the number of landings falling more than the number of passengers indicates an increase in the efficiency of air travel, which has positive effects, including in terms of its environmental impact."
In March, the number of landings in scheduled and charter operations at Swedavia's airports was 16,700, which is nine per cent fewer than for the same month in 2012.
So far in 2013, the number of passengers at Swedavia's airports has fallen three per cent to 7,200,000. The number of domestic passengers in the first quarter fell eight per cent compared to 2012 to 2,900,000, while the number of international passengers increased one per cent to 4,300,000. The number of landings in scheduled and charter operations at Swedavia's airports has fallen six per cent this year, compared to the period January-March 2012, to 47,100.
